Weiser Wednesday - #5 - Taking Stock of Your Organization

In this episode, we are going to look at TAKING STOCK of your #company and #organization. Before starting there are a few things to know first that have to be taken into consideration.

1. Companies are ORGANIC BEINGS LIKE PEOPLE, they are not machines.

2. Companies like people are made of MULTIPLE, INTERRELATED, AND INTERDEPENDENT SYSTEMS.

3. Unlike a machine which can be reduced to its parts, SYSTEMS NEED TO BE VIEWED, DIAGNOSED AND IMPROVED AS A WHOLE. You cannot fix parts in isolation.

3. Companies have 3 core, interdependent systems, the ORGANIZATIONAL OPERATING SYSTEM (OS), the STRATEGY MANAGEMENT OS, and the OPERATIONS OS SYSTEMS, They have a 4th system which is a LINKING SYSTEM (e.g Financial, IT, Communications, etc.) that ties everything together.

To take stock, evaluate these systems both individually, but most importantly as a whole. In upcoming posts, I will expand on these concepts and propose questions and topics for each of these systems and for the organization overall.
